Brooke White, My American Idol

To my friends who are American Idol fans (and others),

Can you believe that I watched American Idol tonight for the first time and I about fell out of my seat! Here's why:

When we lived in LA I wrote several songs. I started to search out LDS people who were musically talented to help me with my songs. I was directed to an LDS gal who had moved into a ward that we had recenlty moved out of, who was a professional singer.I called her up and asked her if I could meet with her and she could give me feedback on some of my songs. She said to pick one and she would look it over and give me feedback.

Well, I picked a song I wrote about my dad who was killed by a drunk driverwhen I was four. I played my rendition of it for her that I had taped on my hand held tape recorder (which was EMBARASSING 'cause I sing so bad.) Well, she said, "What you need is help with the melody." And she picked up her guitar and started playing/singing my song and it was incredible to hear my song sung so well!!!!I was floored when she said that she was pleasantly surprised as she didn't think my song would be very good. She said she thought my song was promising and could "go" somewhere. (I was soo floored.)

So over the next couple of months we met about 4 times and she donated her time and talents and she would make suggestions and I had to change and add lyrics and together we turned it into a really good song (in my opinion!)I recorded her singing it with my hand held tape recorder, which of course is fuzzy. She said then, that I could never put the recording on the internet or distribute it because of her contracts.

My dream with this song is to have it recorded and used by M.A.D.D for their programs that they do in schools. I would love to see my song used to help stop drunk driving. I don't care if I never made a dime off the song, I would love to see it utilized somehow. That's one of my major dreams in life (if only I were rich!!!)

Well guess what!?!?! SHE is Brooke White who is on American Idol!! Isn't that funny! I didn't even know she was on American Idol. I am sure glad I tuned in this time!!! And I hope she wins, she is such a sweet person.
In the back of mind I wonder if she'd ever help me get it recorded....

Anyway, another "cool" thing is she gave me a copy of the cd that she had just finished recording at the time. I bet she'll have no problem selling her cd now!!!

Watch Brooke's awesome performance of John Lennon's "Let It Be."

Fun In A Bottle
By Susana Fierro-Baig

It was 2 a.m. on New Year’s Day in ’75,
My young love died,
My Jimmy died.

When a drunk man went out for a ride,
That’s the night that I cried,
When my Jimmy died,
I lost my love in ’75.

Some people think they need a drink
To have a good time.
So they test their luck and spend a buck,
On an innocent life.

But fun is no fun,
It’s just a lot of misery.

When their foot hits the throttle,
Fun in a bottle aint no fun at all.
‘Cuz it’s the end of a life, for a beloved husband and wife,
And that’s, that’s no fun.

My love, let’s go back just 10 minutes before,
I won’t let you through the door.
No, Jimmy, don’t go out that door.
‘Cuz if you do, you’re not coming back my love.
So stay with me,
Just stay with me.

God, why do people think they need a drink
To have a good time?
They test their luck and spend a buck,
On an innocent life.

Fun is no fun.
Just a lot of misery

When their foot hits the throttle
Fun in a bottle aint no fun at all.
‘Cuz it’s a son and a daughter, left alone without a father,
And that’s, that’s no fun.

Jimmy when you lost your life,
I lost my life too.
Our hearts were shattered,
Our dreams didn’t matter,
When death tolled for you.

Fun is no fun,
Just a lot of misery.

When his foot hits the throttle
Fun in a bottle aint no fun at all.
Now he’s gone, for a time
But there’s still eternal life,
And that’s, that’s my prayer.

In ’75 my young love died,
That’s the night that I cried
When my Jimmy died.
I can’t wait to see him on the other side,
On life’s other side,
I’ll be by his side,
By his side.
